Nicholas Rummell has had a diversity of interests in history, political science, and public health which has led him down a varied path of education. He received a B.A. in Classical Civilizations with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Cincinnati, a B.A. in History (European) from Kent State University and he followed that with a M.A. in History with a specialization in European History from the joint program at The College of Charleston and The Citadel. While at The College of Charleston and The Citadel, he completed his Master’s Thesis entitled “Cyrus in Cyprus: Cyrus Vance and Crisis Management in the Cyprus Crisis of 1967.” More recently, he has just completed his Doctor of Liberal Studies (DLS) degree from the University of Memphis in the fields of History, Public Health, and Public Administration with his Dissertation entitled “Resettled Reproduction: A History and Analysis of Family Planning Opportunities among Refugees in Tennessee.” Currently he is also finishing a Graduate Certificate in Political Science through Western New Mexico University.

His scholarly interests range widely in time and geography and discipline, from Classical Greece to the origins and outcomes of World War I to modern social movements. He is especially interested in refugees and the situations and conflicts that produce refugees. He has participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for College and University Teachers, served as the CCHA Southern Division Secretary, Vice President, and President, and has presented at numerous conferences, hosted webinars, and published numerous works in journals. In addition, he was the steadfast conference chair for CCHA’s 2024 National Conference in Knoxville, TN.
