A former Nassau Community College student, Fran O’Connor has been teaching and tutoring community college students since 1982. She is the co-author (with Dr. Sara Hosey) of Wide Awake: Thinking, Reading and Writing Critically. Her specialties include disabilities studies, film and literature, grammar, preparatory English, and horror fiction and film. Additionally, she is an archery Level 2 instructor and has been an active target-shooter since 2006. She is also a fan of heavy metal music. She is also currently the Secretary of the Eastern Division of CCHA.
